What is an Adult Day Care Center?
Seniors come for the day and participate in a variety of activities including exercise,
painting, games, singing and crafts. We specialize in early cases of Alzheimer’s related
diseases, but the program is open to high functioning seniors as well.
How do other participants act at the center?
While most of our participants have problems with their short term memory, they can all
have conversations and answer questions about their lives, likes and dislikes.
How much does it cost, and is it covered by insurance?
We cost $62.00 per day and ask that you come at least twice a week. Medicare and Blue Cross
do not typically cover Social Model Day Care Centers, but SCAN Health plan does cover a
number of days for their members.
What is the difference between a Social Model Day Care and a Medical Model Day Care?
A Social Model Day Care is typically for people who are less incapacitated by the effects
of Alzheimer's and dementia. They do not need nursing staff to help perform daily activities
like walking, eating and restrooming.
Are there eligibility requirements?
Seniors must be able to follow directions, participate in activities, be independent in
eating, able to restroom by themselves, and be able to walk or use a walker with stability.
Someone prone to wandering or unable to be socially appropriate would not be acceptable.
We have a two day evaluation to make sure it is good fit for everybody.
Who would not be a good fit?
California licensing precludes us from accepting people confined to a wheelchair, people
who are incontinent, and people needing one on one care. People in these categories would
be a better fit at a Medical Model Day Care.
Is Mount of Olives a locked facility?
We are not a locked facility, but we do have alarms on the main doors to let us know if
someone is going in and out of them.
Can I come if I am not a member of Mount of Olives Church?
We are open to people of all faiths and creeds. We are part of Mount of Olives Church
and our daily program includes chapel, devotions and lunch time prayer.
